A Mississippi Central locomotive in the small rail yard next to the old Holly Springs, Miss., depot building. Mississippi Central is a short line railroad now owned by a railroad holding company.
Photo from yesterday’s travels; I’m putting it here because James said he expected more trains.
If I’d known you were going through Holly Springs; I’d ask you to say a few words in memory of the Universalist missionary, D. B. Clayton, who lived in Holly Springs from the 1830s to 1860s. His first wife and some of his children graves are still there. After Clayton’s death (in 1907), he had churches and parishes named for him in Mississippi, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
Steven @ 1 — I’m sorry I didn’t know about Clayton. If I ever go back, maybe I’ll look for those graves.
